Rape is a subject I generally don't talk about, but with the settlements made from the Catholic Church to its victims, I am outraged. For a variety of reasons....First of all this is my opinions only and I would love to hear yours as well, whether you agree with some or all or none of mine.
1. There is a varing degree of payment...WHY? Some had better lawyers...my feelings anyway.
2. Why should they be paid in the first place? They shouldn't be unless it is to recover money spent for therapy and should go to their parents who paid for it not them. Why because being paid for rape takes to the level of prostitution....think about it.
3. Are the victims keeping the money and why should they? I feel they should turn the money over to a victims right group and authorities to keep the bastards in jail.
4. I feel like they are taking away the rights of true victims of rape...do you? I feel that taking money for being raped takes it to the level of prostitution....once paid for the church is the JOHN and the victim the prostitute. The only difference between the two is consenting adults.
5. If you are a rape victim survior like I am are you in agreement for or against the payments? I am totally against any payments for victims outside of therapy.
6. Do you think the money will make them feel better in the long run? (I don't)
7. Why is it that seeings that this is mostly men that are the victims of the church that they can not only get paid but get charges to be filed way after the fact when a woman rape victim has to file within a certain period of time depending on the state she resides in and where the rape took place. They are told the statue has run out and oh well so to speak.
8. What makes men more special in rape cases that they can get justice after the fact decades later when millions of women can't, and I am not talking payments I am talking bringing them to court.
Well I will get off my soapbox for now, answer if you want or not I just needed to vent, this just makes me so livid and has since it first started...I would have said my feelings about this sooner but wanted to see where it would go. Later all and have a grand FRIDAY.
